CNC MACHINIST - The primary responsibility of the CNC Machinist is to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and correct operation of the CNC machine, while adhering to Benchmark Machining’s shop protocols and safety standards.

Typical Daily Tasks

  • Using the appropriate software, the CNC machinist is responsible for writing programs in Mastercam, and other programming languages. (In some cases, programming may be done at the machine tool.)
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine product dimensions and appropriate methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate the products.
  • Display knowledge of mathematics and use of micrometers and calipers to calculate dimensions and tolerances.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark stock to designate cuts.
  • Select appropriate tooling, machines, and materials to be used in preparation for machine work.
  • Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Set up and operate basic tools, as well advanced and specialized tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Monitor speed and feed of the machines during the machining process
  • Proactively identify and solve problems by listening to and observing operating machines/ equipment to determine potential need for adjustments and repairs.
  • Maintain machines using knowledge of machining procedures, shop mathematics, metal properties, layouts, and mechanics.
  • Install new equipment and/ or repaired parts.
  • Clean machines, tools, and equipment regularly to remove grease, rust, stains, and any foreign substances.
  • Evaluate parts to ensure there are no flaws and deficiencies.
  • Effectively communicate information regarding production status, programming functionality, output specifications, and other technical information.

Qualifications

  • A firm understanding of hands-on CNC programming to include formatting and editing
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings to obtain material tooling and material requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Ability to run multiple machine types.
  • Full comprehension of complex part prints.
  • Possess strong math skills, as well as written and verbal skills
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Work well under pressure
  • Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift

Benchmark Machining Inc has been locally owned and operated since 1996. We manufacture parts for various industries, specializing in precision CNC milling and turning. We provide exceptional quality to our customers’ specifications in the manufacturing, industrial, commercial, and construction industries.

Benchmark started off in a small warehouse on Highway 78 in Ladson, across from the Fairgrounds. In 2010, we expanded and moved to our current location on Jedburg Road and have since expanded with an added addition to the already existing facility. We have a talented team of machinists, tool and die makers, welders, and production personnel, so that we have the ability to support our customers’ needs from beginning to end of the manufacturing and assembly process.
