Work Schedule and Hours
Primarily 8 am-5 pm, rotation in on-call and crisis intervention, which may require after hour emergency response; some after hour programming and activities as needed. Occasional travel to regional and out-of-the-area meetings (as needed for training and/or collaboration with other mental health professionals).

Position Summary
The Clinical Director of the Counseling Center is a full time mental health clinician in the Health and Counseling Center. Responsibilities include individual and group counseling, supervision of clinical staff, training, threat assessment, emergency services, consultation, and outreach presentations. Consultation with members of the University community and participation in University committees is expected. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in an Integrated Care Model.

Required Education/Experience/Skills
This position requires a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology or Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or other mental health discipline and North Carolina licensure as a psychologist, mental health counselor or appropriate for the discipline. May also consider candidates with ability to obtain a NC Licensure within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
The successful candidate should hold a Doctoral (Ph.D.) or Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or other mental health discipline. The successful candidate will also have progressively responsible experience (2-5 years) in a college counseling center, preferably at the lead counselor or assistant director level or above. Strong consideration will be given to an individual with significant experience and work in an Integrated Care Model, brief therapy orientation, and threat assessment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The Clinical Director of the Counseling Center will possess the following skills and abilities:
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to student development theory, college counseling, and awareness of diversity and multicultural issues on a college campus;
  • The ability to work collaboratively in an ever-changing work environment;
  • Skills and mastery in college counseling, including understanding the psychological needs of college students, clinical assessment, service delivery, crisis intervention, and management, supervision of trainees, experience and training in working with students with eating disorders, substance abuse concerns, self-harming behaviors, and sexual assault histories is preferred.
  • Ability to manage the needs of students in the community with more severe psychological concerns;
  • Exceptional clinical supervisory and interpersonal skills;
  • A strong understanding of effective crisis response and management; and
  • The ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Experience and training in working with an Integrated Care Model.
  • Experience and mastery in using a brief therapy and psychoeducational model as an orientation in dealing with a college population.
  • Provide individual risk and threat assessment to students who are identified as individuals of concern by the University.
