SUMMARY
MAB Community Services is a non-profit human service organization serving adults with developmental disabilities, adults with acquired brain injuries, individuals who are blind or visually impaired, and students ages 13 to 22 who have a variety of learning challenges and behavioral health diagnoses. An exciting new position (20 hours/week) and a key member of MAB’s Advancement team, the Corporate and Foundation Relations Specialist will serve as a crucial member of the Advancement department team. Under the supervision of the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, the Corporate and Foundation Relations Specialist’s primary responsibilities are to 1) research, write and prepare proposals to corporate and foundation grantmakers; 2) oversee and ensure that the department’s master grants calendar is regularly revised/updated and that the department meets applicable grant deadlines; and 3) Assist the Advancement Department with special events and other administrative needs. The Corporate and Foundation Relations Specialist works collaboratively with the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations and other Development team members to increase grant funding for MAB’s three core program divisions.
Requirements include significant writing experience and a proven track record of accessing corporate/ foundation grants and sponsorships of more than $5,000. A laptop computer will be provided. Position will work collaboratively to exceed the corporate and foundation goal of $900,000 annually to support MAB’s three program divisions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Oversee corporate and foundation annual grants calendar to ensure grant proposal deadlines are met.
· Research prospective grantmakers using search tools/databases.
· Prepare and proof concept papers and grant applications, including assisting with budgets and all other supporting materials. Electronically submit or mail applications and required attachments per grant guidelines.
· Assist in planning corporate/foundation visits and other targeted contact with donors and prospects. Coordinate logistics including scheduling site visits and other meetings, as assigned.
· Ensure grant files are in order, including updating Raiser’s Edge records with grant-specific activities.
· Assist other senior staff with grants-related and major donor/family foundation prospect research, follow-up, and/or cultivation and stewardship.
· Assist in preparing project budgets to submit with grant applications using Excel and other budgeting templates.
· Help to ensure that all grant agreement/reporting requirements are met:
o Help maintain a calendar of grant proposals and report deadlines.
o Develop report narratives and financial reports, as assigned.
o Work with program staff to secure program updates.
o Secure accurate consumer participation/outcomes data for all narratives, as necessary/available. Help develop reports using program databases.
· Support MAB fundraising events and internal events, as requested. Interact with funders/ sponsors/prospects at these events, as relevant.
· Attend and participate in development team meetings. Report on grant activity, as requested.
· Attend/participate in required training and perform special projects/other assignments, as determined by supervisor.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor (BA, BS) from four-year college or university preferred.
· Two to four years of related experience and/or training.
· Experience with Blackbaud database preferred.
OTHER SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
· Proven success in grant writing or other persuasive writing. (Please submit two writing samples; ideally one grant application).
· Strong organizational skills; ability to plan and meet deadlines ahead of schedule. Attention to detail is critical.
· Understanding of grant budgeting.
· Excellent communication, writing, and research skills.
· Strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and ability to work collaboratively.
· Advanced computer skills; including experience using spreadsheets, as well as facility with database platforms (e.g., Raiser’s Edge) preferred.
· Some experience creating program budgets and working with organizational budgets.
· Occasional night and weekend hours required to support overall development activities.
