Claims Examiner

Job Summary: The claims examiner is responsible for mitigating the company's exposure to each claim under the examiner’s control through the investigation of claims and communication with the company and the claimant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Investigate assigned claims made against the company.
• Properly set reserves and settle claims within authority based on the investigation, and make recommendations on such decisions requiring higher levels of approval.
• Communicate with the claimant to obtain facts, advise of the status of the resolution, and come to an agreement on a resolution.
• Communicate to supervisors, internal clients, agents, and service providers about the status of claims and reach a resolution on them.
• Assist Claims Supervisor and Claims Manager in gathering and maintaining evidence in disputed claims, and in responding to discovery requests in litigated claims.
• Adhere to federal and state laws in regard to claims handling and follow best practices as established by the company.
• Record and track the development of claims and report changes to management.
• Arrange free astrays.
• Maintain STI claims email inbox.
• Other duties as assigned by department management in accordance with company needs.

Qualification Requirements/Preferences:

• 3-5 years of previous claims experience
• High School Diploma or GED is required and a degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred
• Auto Liability & General Liability Claims strongly preferred
• Verbal and written communication skills must be excellent
• Basic computer skills required
• Ability to investigate various situations thoroughly
