Position Summary

The Civil Engineer reports to the City Engineer and is expected to perform detailed reviews of engineering plans for water mains, sewers, streets, parking lots, and sidewalks for compliance with city standards and sound engineering principles. The Civil Engineer is expected to interact with and be a resource for residents and businesses who contact the Office of Engineering for information both in-person and via other means of communication. The Civil Engineer needs to perform preliminary studies and general design engineering for City-initiated infrastructure projects, including local roads, storm and sanitary sewers, and water distribution system improvements. For assigned projects, the Civil Engineer will prepare specifications, estimates, and standards and verify quantities submitted.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) with the State of Michigan, desired
• CAD and Plan Review experience
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
