Job Summary

The ECR Cheer Coach is responsible for coaching student athletes in competitive cheerleading techniques to prepare them for events and/or competitions. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. The Coach is responsible for setting and conducting practice times after academic classes and supervising the team at games and any other activity where the team cheers. Must have extensive training and experience in cheerleading and choreography. Requires excellent communication, managerial, and planning skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize and run effective warm up, practices and games.
  • Attends tryouts, practices, games, competitions, and cheer camp.
  • Assesses skills and assigns team positions.
  • With the Athletic Director, maintains a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Create, clean, and/or teach routines.
  • Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes cheerleaders, during events and practice, to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and always provides proper supervision and discipline of students.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
  • Conferences with the Athletic Director and parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of and/or disciplinary actions taken with students.
  • Models positive sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Qualifications: Experience as a competitive cheerleading coach at the high school or college level preferred. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills related to cheers, cheer-dance, stunting, and choreography. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with advisors, school administrators, parents.

Knowledge & Abilities – Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in sport
  • Previous coaching experience preferred
  • All CIF Coaching Requirements CPR and 1st Aid Certification
  • Must attend all games and practices (including Football & Basketball)
  • Must attend all Summer Practices
  • Must participate in Spring Competitions
