Job Title: Client Support Worker - Certified Peer Specialist

Program: New Rock

Shift: First - Full-Time

Job Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM - Monday through Friday -. May require on-call

Job Location: Covington, GA.

The base location for this position is:

The Peer Specialist assists consumers of behavioral health services with daily decision-making and minor problem solving skills. Provides emotional support and encouragement and models appropriate behavior and social interactions. Observes and monitors participants’ behavior in the course of daily activities. Intervenes and diffuses potentially disruptive situations using established guidelines. Refers concerns to appropriate staff as needed. Charts observations and incidents. Assists with evaluation of functional levels of participants. Works with other team members to determine appropriate individual goals and objectives and to develop individualized plans for participants


Job Description:

  • Assists participants with accessing community resources and developing self-advocacy skills.
  • Assists with teaching daily living skills, such as cooking, hygiene, and medication management.
  • Assists participants with preparation to co-lead groups on planned topics related to treatment and recovery goals.
  • Presents educational group lectures as assigned.
  • Under close supervision, assists with provision of support services, such as case management and supportive guidance.
  • Participates in staff supervision sessions, program planning meetings, participant staffings, and in-service training.
  • Assesses participants’ recreational options and existing community activities.
  • Plans and participates in recreational activities that foster community integration and healthy relationships.
  • Documents participant activities and progress on appropriate forms with established procedures and within established time frames.
  • Complies with agency rules and policies on confidentiality and as an agency employee, maintains required boundaries with program participants

In addition to the aforementioned responsibilities, The Certified Peer Specialist is also:

  • Coordinates overnight trips to Peer Conventions and documents in electronic record individual’s responses to activity.
  • Completes and sends in monthly mileage reports for company vans.
  • Completes daily progress notes as assigned within 8 hour shift.
  • Provided back up support as the safety officer for the facility and attend trainings when needed.
  • Assist with coordinating RESPECT INSTITUTE training and speaking engagements.
  • Facilitate weekly WHAM and PSR-I services for selected individuals.
  • Complete weekly schedule and contribute to monthly outing schedule.
  • Complete client related documents/forms within designated time period.
  • Maintains client’s Electronic Client Records by scanning in supporting documentation.
  • Coordinates with front office staff transportation orders for clients within needed time frame.
  • Drive clients to community outing locations in company van.


NOTE:

Applicants must provide official transcripts for undergraduate and graduate degrees, copy of diploma for High School/GED, and official copy of professional license (if applicable) to be considered for an interview.

Minimum Training & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field OR High School diploma with at least 3 years’ experience working in social services field providing supportive care to clients challenged with mental illness AND Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Certification or eligible to obtain a CPS certification based on personal lived experience


Preferred Qualifications:

Must be a current or former recipient of behavioral health services, with Certification as Certified Peer Specialist (CPS).
