REQUIREMENTS:
1) Registered Nurse Licensed to practice in the state of Texas.
2) BLS 3) ALS
3) Obtains/maintains required CEU’s as the Cardiovascular Coordinator required by the program accrediting agency.
4) 3-5 years involved in the direct care of the ACS patient in either the ED, Cath Lab or ICU preferred.
5) Member of the American Heart Association preferred
6) Member of the American College of Cardiology preferred
Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire. New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (BLS, ALS, and/or any other life support certifications required for the job).
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The coordinator provides collaboration and leadership with the Emergency Department, Catheterization Lab, and Intensive Care Unit along with other involved units to promote excellence in patient care; as well as outside agencies. They will assist in planning, developing and implementing the goals and operations for hospital programs. Chair or Co-Chair Program Committees. Acts as a liaison with Transferring facilities. Actively involved in process improvement to show continuous improvement in the care of the Cardiovascular population. Assists and recommends protocols and guidelines for best practice treatment of cardiac patients across the continuum of care. Works with the Education Department in educating nursing, ancillary staff and EMS on best practices in treating the Cardiovascular/ACS patients. Acts as a resource internally and in the community regarding educating others about the ACS patients. Works closely with Emergency Medical Services to assure optimal continuity of care from pre-hospital to hospital. Works in a collegial manner with the Programs’ Medical Director(s) to assure continuity in the care of all cardiovascular patients. Works closely with cardiologists and CV Surgeons to facilitate communication and needs of the patient pre-and post-procedure with the healthcare team. Generates STS risk scores and collaborates with the CV Surgeon to coordinate the timing of surgeries. Post procedure monitoring and troubleshooting to ensure best practices are being met such as early mobilization, chest tube care, early extubation etc.. Rounds on Cardiovascular/ACS patients and acts as a resource to the nurses. Demonstrate competency in emerging Cardiovascular treatment(s), and diagnostic modalities for hospital programs. Demonstrate a minimum of 10 contact hours annually in Cardiac education. Works with the Marketing Department; participating in Community Health Fairs and/or other Community initiatives. Performs other duties as reasonably requested by or otherwise necessary to properly assist the operations of the Chest Pain Center, as well as leading the development of future Cardiovascular Care Services.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Director of Risk Quality and Patient Safety

Universal precautions must be observed, and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
