This position is responsible for the development and oversight of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy Residency program offered jointly by WVU and WVUMedicine. This position is responsible for the development of residency curriculum, provides didactic instruction, and assesses resident’s development in direct patient care related to the specialty practice area. EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT)
2. Completion of one of the following:
1) ABPTS certification as a Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist plus at least one year of clinical experience
or 2) Graduate of an ABPTRFE-accredited residency program in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary physical therapy plus at least one year of clinical experience
or 3) Five years of clinical experience with at least 2000 hours of physical therapy practice for persons with primary cardiovascular and/or pulmonary conditions .
3. Current, unrestricted license by the West Virginia Board of Physical Therapy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
EXPERIENCE:
1. ABPTS certification as a Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist .

1.Develop and oversee didactic curriculum of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Residency.
2. Mentor direct patient care by the Resident (minimum of 150 contact hours in specialty area).
3. Participate in meetings regarding the residency program with the Residency Director and other residency faculty and provide timely, accurate, and appropriate Resident and program data to program director for ABPTRFE reporting.
4. Oversee the completion of all residency-specific clinical requirements and experiences by the Resident.
5. Create and proctor at least (1) comprehensive written and at least (2) live-patient examinations within the educational component of the residency.
6. Assist Residency Director with recruiting and interviewing potential applicants for Residency.
7. Provides coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team approach.
8. Applies research and proven techniques to examine, evaluate, diagnose, and then prevent or treat conditions that limit the body's ability to move and function in daily life as monitored by supervision, by documentation review, and consultation with M.D.
9. Carries out oversight responsibilities to ensure supervision of PTAs, Rehab Techs, students, and volunteers.
10. Participates in the Performance Improvement program of the department of Rehabilitation Services department with emphasis on physical therapy, to assure the delivery of appropriate, timely, and cost-effective services.
11. Maintains professional competence and proficiency to assure services consistent with national and professional standards of care.
12. Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of the hospital’s goals and objectives.
13. Maintains proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the hospital is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
14. Supervises physical therapy students and volunteers. Will provide supervision of therapy assistants in accordance with regulatory standards.
15. Submits accurate charges for services rendered for patients, according to departmental policies and procedures utilizing the billing system via the patient’s EMR.
