Salt Life is seeking a Buyer - Retail Stores working out of our Jacksonville Beach, FL office. This role will be responsible for all categories within Salt Life company-owned retail locations across the US. You will drive product assortment across stores, work with the locations to curate assortment based on each region/store need and develop and execute product strategy to meet company goals. This position works closely with Planning, Purchasing, the Director of Retail Operations, the Visual Merchandising Manager, and reports to the Vice President of Retail.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for building, submitting, validating, and tracking purchase orders during buy season to meet projected demand and stay within the overall open-to-buy plan
  • Partner with planning on the determination of plans and inventory management to drive assortment execution
  • Forecast business and implement strategies to ensure the plan is achieved, including adjusting product flow and inventory management
  • Manage buying and allocations based on store inventory levels by volume, capacity, seasonality, regional market, and customer profile
  • Partner with planning and the retail field to build and manage successful replenishment and core model plan
  • Responsible for creating assortment boards and executing assortment plans
  • Influence category assortments by analyzing product performance, customer feedback, consumer trend, competitive landscape, and local market knowledge
  • Track delivery of all purchase orders in partnership with purchasing, the warehouse, and communicate shipment status to the stores
  • Run weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to analyze product performance and sales metrics highlighting key business opportunities
  • Recommend markdown, promotion, and pricing strategies. Ensure markdowns fit within gross margin, inventory turn, and sales budgets. Monitor markdowns so that they work with assortment and exit strategies
  • Communicate regularly with stores, as well as District Managers to identify opportunities and share information on new products
  • Import new product SKUs and purchase orders into the retail operating system
  • Product planning and execution of new store opening assortments
  • Own the SMU program
  • Some travel required to stores, corporate offices, and other facilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion or Business preferred
  • 5+ years of buying experience with a medium or large-scale retailer required
  • Experience with buying for 20-50 stores
  • Strong analytical and math skills, specifically in merchandise planning
  • Computer proficiency with advanced knowledge of Excel, experience modeling and analyzing inventory levels
  • Strong self-initiative, prioritization, multi-task, and time management skills
  • Must possess a keen eye for design, trends, and color
  • Ability to adapt and learn internal business systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Reliable and meets deadlines
