DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Staff Compensation Programs unit oversees systemwide staff compensation policy and program design, tools and systems, working closely with compensation and human resource professionals at the ten campuses and five medical centers. We facilitate collection and analysis of internal and external market data for strategic decision support and planning. We ensure that compensation policies and programs comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. We also work closely with talent management professionals across the campuses and medical centers to ensure alignment of the university's compensation programs and strategies with recruiting, career development and broader HR strategies.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Compensation Programs unit oversees systemwide staff compensation policy and program design, tools and systems, working closely with compensation and human resource professionals at the ten campuses and five medical centers. We facilitate collection and analysis of internal and external market data for strategic decision support and planning. We ensure that compensation policies and programs comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. We also work closely with talent management professionals across the campuses and medical centers to ensure alignment of the university's compensation programs and strategies with recruiting, career development and broader HR strategies. This position within Staff Compensation Programs unit applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry-wide business process and analysis practices and organizational policies and procedures. Resolves a wide range of business process issues of moderate to complex scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • 35% Applies technical expertise and business analysis concepts to identify, evaluate and define complex systems scope and objectives with an understanding of applicable business practices, processes, systems and industry standards to meet end-user needs. Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes business and user needs, documenting requirements and revising existing system and process logic issues as necessary.
  • 30% Provides technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing complex systems and procedures. Creates complex specifications for systems to meet end-user requirements. Involved in developing complex user interface designs. Plans and executes unit integration and acceptance testing.
  • 15% Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes recommendations for approval of business process and procedural documentation. Recommends and implements changes in process and procedures.
  • 10% Participates in cross-functional teams to address complex business or systems issues.
  • 5% Negotiates with stakeholders on the creation of specifications.
  • 5% Provides support and training on new applications. Guides and advises less-experienced colleagues.



Experience
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years experience writing systems requirements and utilizing data to develop analysis such as costing, reporting, etc.

  • Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
  • Thorough Knowledge of related areas of IT.
  • Strong skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture.
  • In-depth understanding and skill in process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.

Full Salary Range:

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
