Why does the job exist?

To provide clerical support for the Hispanic Education Liaison and budgetary oversight of the Hispanic Education Act. The Hispanic Education Act is focused on supporting districts and charter schools with how to better serve Hispanic students and their families.

How does it get done?

Collaborate with the Hispanic Education Liaison and other staff which includes but is not limited to: Providing timely and relevant customer service, technical assistance, and support to districts across the state.

This position also performs clerical functions such as preparing correspondence, receiving visitors, arranging conference calls, scheduling meetings, supporting travel requests, routing documents for signature, supporting Hispanic Education Act fiscal management, and coordinating to ensure adequate office supplies and functioning technology.

Secretary of Education, Deputy Cabinet Secretaries, Hispanic Education Liaison, Superintendents, Tribes, District Administrators of Hispanic Education, School Administrators, Teachers and Students and their Families.

Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidate has knowledge and/or experience in:
  • providing high-quality customer service and support;
  • providing technical assistance and support;
  • fiscal management of funding; and
  • scheduling meetings and effective calendar management.

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management and/or contract management. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
