The role of a Business Development Representative is to grow business within a defined territory, and do so in a manner that increases revenue and market share. To be successful in this role, one must demonstrate extensive experience in business development strategies and marketing. Accomplished Business Development Representatives are experts in identifying and capitalizing on business opportunities. The job duties of this role will include establishing networks with industry specialists, maintaining valued customer relationships, and negotiating deals.

Responsibilities expected of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the building industry in the assigned area as well as state of the art product knowledge in the building materials industry.
  • Make sales calls and meet with current and prospective customers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners by promoting the Companys Mission, Vision, and Values at all times.
  • Identify new customers and business opportunities by researching and creating networking opportunities.
  • Identify and develop new lines of business based on customer needs.
  • Work with customers to identify and provide solutions to their product needs.
  • Promptly and professionally address and resolve customer inquiries and concerns.
  • Familiarize oneself with business objectives, and develop and implement sales strategies accordingly to ensure attainment of company sales and profitability goals.
  • Regularly analyze market data and trends to ensure market competitiveness and adjust sales strategies as needed.
  • Liaise with sales and management to align strategies aimed at increasing revenue and market share.
  • Work with all levels within the company to identify and solve issues that affect profitability and customer relations within the assigned area, and develop and implement solutions for continuous improvement.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of trade shows, customer events, sales exhibits, and other promotional activities.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop and execute marketing campaigns.
  • Maintain customer relationships according to company policy to ensure retention and continued satisfaction.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications of the ideal candidate include:

  • High school diploma or equivalency; College degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales or business development with a track record of meeting sales and business objectives, preferably in the building supply industry.
  • Knowledge of the building supply industry and construction processes is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret market data.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Ability to find, develop, and maintain customer relationships.
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of current office technology.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office programs or G Suite.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Ability to travel as needed to attend trade shows, events, and meet with customers.
