Job description

The City Commission desires candidates who are visionary, innovative and team oriented in their
approach, and able to employ a style that engenders mutual trust and openness with community Partners
and Stake holders. Employees are responsible for reviewing development operations to verify conformity
with approved plans and specifications in their respective trades. Objective is to evaluate compliance with
all local, State and Federal laws, ordinances, and regulations to ensure the safety and welfare of the
general public. This position reports directly to the Community Development Director.


Duties:
  • Responsible for the assigned day-to-day activities and workload of the Building Division.
  • Oversees and works closely with building inspectors, code enforcement and administrative team in the
management of building permit activity.
  • Serves as in-house subject matter expert on the technical and administrative aspects of the Florida

Building Code, its interpretation and application, regulating the minimum standards of life safety, health,
and welfare for the community.

  • Enforces City related ordinances to ensure compliance with all relevant codes, ordinances, and
accessibility laws.
  • Flood Plain Management

Skills/Qualifications:
• Ability to read, understand and interpret technical design documents including design calculations,
technical specifications/project manuals, and construction drawings.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of the City’s construction codes, pertinent State regulations and
other applicable City Codes and Ordinances.
  • Strong knowledge relating to the principles of structural design, engineering mathematics, and building
plan review.

Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, architecture, or

public administration preferred. Ten (10) years or more of increasingly responsible experience
performing construction inspections of public, commercial, industrial, and/or residential buildings may
be considered in lieu of educational requirement.

Professional Licenses:
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Must possess Florida Certified Building Official (CBO) certification(s) by International Code Council

(ICC) or Licensure as a Registered Design Professional (RDP), Architect, or Professional Engineer
preferred.

  • Preferred Certified Flood Plain Manager (CFM)
