Line Cook Job Description: Top Duties and Qualifications

A Line Cook is responsible for providing a supportive role to kitchen staff in the preparation of meals and ingredients. Fully cooking banquet style meals solo. Their duties include organizing and labeling food items in storage closets, performing tasks like chopping ingredients and sanitizing their workstation during and after service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Line Cooks perform various food preparation, cooking and cleaning tasks to ensure the kitchen remains efficient in creating and delivering dishes for patrons. Cleaning dishes in a food service environment to ensure that the kitchen has a steady supply of clean plates, bowls, silverware, pots, pans and glasses. Their duties include prioritizing loads of different types of crockery and kitchenware, hand-washing dishes, loading the dishwasher and placing dishes to dry. Their duties and responsibilities include:

  • Completing all tasks, in order, on the prep list from the Head Chef or other kitchen manager
  • Labeling and stocking all ingredients on easily accessible shelves
  • Washing, chopping, and sorting ingredients like fruits, vegetables, and meats
  • Keeping the dish pit station sanitized and clean
  • Measuring quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients
  • Parboiling food, reducing sauces, and starting first steps in various dishes
  • Cleaning dishes, washing cooking utensils and cookware, taking out the trash and sanitizing kitchen
  • Adhering to all relevant nutrition and sanitary regulations and standards
  • Taking garbage and trash to dumpster area
  • Washing work areas, refrigerators, cooking equipment, walls and floor
  • Keeping track of ingredient inventory and collaborating with other kitchen and management staff to order resupply

Shifts:

  • 5 morning shifts (5AM to 1:30 PM)

*Signing Bonus paid over a 6 month period*

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
