Position Summary:
The Benefits Specialist applies an in-depth understanding of all benefit plans offered with respect to eligibility, principles, practices, plan design and process/procedures to find solutions for team members. Various plans include medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, retirement savings plan (RSP), workers compensation, Leave of Absence Policy, voluntary benefits, time off programs and flexible spending accounts. Assists team members and departments with the FMLA/LOA process, regulations and procedures. Responsibilities:

Various plans include medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, retirement savings plan (RSP), workers compensation, Leave of Absence Policy, voluntary benefits, time off programs and flexible spending accounts. Assists team members and departments with the FMLA/LOA process, regulations and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Under general direction, conducts analysis of daily operations/work flow and quality of practices/processes within the benefits department to insure consistent application of plan provisions and adherence to plan design.
- Works closely with third parties to ensure the accuracy of data being transmitted and received from carriers and third party administrators.
- Provides direction to Benefit Analysts and Benefits Representatives on daily operations within department.
- Responsible for benefits communication campaigns in print as well as through electronic or web-based portals.
- Responsible for the data integrity of all benefits related information within the HRIS.
- Works closely with the HRIS dept. and must have in depth knowledge of the HRIS and the specific benefits functionality.
- Maintains and updates SBCs, SPD's and/or SMM's as required and oversees distribution of required ERISA documents.
- Lead annual open enrollment process including presenting content to large employee groups, system updates, communications, meetings, testing and working with assigned vendors as needed.
- Test annual plan design changes, including managing overall HR training and ongoing team member communication. Coordinate and ensure all carrier updates are in place and tested prior to new plan year.
- Flexibility to handle unexpected projects and a demonstrated willingness to help others.
- Provides subject matter expertise to internal business unit partners and colleagues on projects
- Works with department leadership in the coordination and completion of projects, initiatives and all benefit related activities.
- Participate in benefit work associated with acquisition and mergers, which includes comparisons and analysis of potential acquisitions benefit offerings, facilitating benefit meetings as needed.
- Remains current on all applicable laws, rules and regulations as they apply to the administration of benefits.
- Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations as it relates to benefits, timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and coordinate daily benefits processing including, but not limited to enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, rollovers, distributions, loans, hardships and compliance testing.
- Maintains up to date policies, procedures, notices and plan documents.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
- Tracks trends and developments in assigned functional areas.
- Strong knowledge of relevant benefits law, such as HIPPA, FMLA, ADAAA, ERISA, COBRA, ACA, Section 125, Worker’s Compensation, retirement regulations and other federal, state and local standards.
- Completes various benefits benchmarking surveys.
- Participates in working groups, councils and committees as requested.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independent from daily direct supervision.
- Possess strong critical thinking skills to be able to identify potential process and procedure inconsistencies.
- Demonstrates excellent analytical, problem solving, organization skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Prioritizes work in conjunction with department leadership.
- General knowledge of all HR related policies and procedures.
- Ability to work with other HR functions in the research and resolution of problems.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications:
Education/Training
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Management, or related field. Equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience on a 1:1 basis may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree. Offsetting experience must be in the field of benefits and is in addition to the experience listed in the Experience section.

Experience
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the field of benefits required. Knowledge of HRIS, Microsoft office products required. Advance skills in MS Excel and Outlook.
