Behavioral Health Technician (Recovery Support Specialist)

Full-Time, Non-Exempt

All Shifts Available: Typically 7 am-3:00 pm (1st); 3:00 pm-11:00 pm (2nd); 11:00 pm-7:00 am (3rd). May be requested to cover other shifts as needed.

DCCCA is looking for Behavioral Health Technicians (Recovery Support Specialists) to serve at our Wichita location. Behavioral Health Technicians serve an integral role in clients’ substance abuse recovery. Successful candidates provide a safe and structured environment for clients. We are looking for individuals that are compassionate, fun, consistent and reliable, and anticipate the needs of their clients and team. DCCCA’s comprehensive continuum of substance abuse treatment and outpatient mental health counseling in Wichita offers gender-responsive and family focused services for both men and women. Located in Wichita, one of Kansas’s largest metropolitan areas, DCCCA clients come primarily from Sedgwick County but are accepted from referral sources state-wide. Substance abuse treatment services include non-medical detoxification, short term intensive and extended stay residential programs, intensive outpatient modalities, outpatient counseling and primary healthcare collaboration. Outpatient counseling for both substance use and mental health needs are facilitated for adults and adolescents via tele-health technology or in office sessions. DCCCA’s unique gender-responsive program provides services to women, women with dependent children, and pregnant women. A licensed childcare, parenting, case management and mental health services are integrated into the substance abuse treatment modalities.

Essential Functions of the Behavioral Health Technician:

  • Creates a safe client environment by performing all required security and safety procedures
  • Assists in the client’s orientation of treatment goals, program rules and structure
  • Submits a written incident report in the event of unusual client behavior or activity while in DCCCA’s care
  • Assesses and resolves minor incidents during weekend and evening hours when daytime staff is unavailable
  • Documents required program and client information in a timely and complete manner
  • Monitors client’s weekly schedule and adherence to policies and procedures related to facility/equipment usage
  • Supports Counselors and other treatment providers with the coordination and implementation of client services from admission through discharge
  • Supervises client performance, enforces program rules and applies the prescribed consequences for misbehavior

Qualifications of the Behavioral Health Technician:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • One year of related experience, preferred.
  • Ability to gain knowledge of and apply basic understanding of the treatment model utilized.

Successful completion of post-offer background screening, reference checks, fingerprint-based records search clearance, and drug screening is required. Backgrounds do not necessarily preclude someone from employment in a lived experience position. Class C driver’s license with clear driving record, reliable personal transportation, and current automobile insurance, required. Approval by DCCCA’s auto insurance provider to drive vehicles on DCCCA business, required.
