Job Description

Position/Title: Beginning Teacher Coordinator
Major Job Function: To assist the CHRO in the task of providing leadership in developing and supporting beginning teachers as they complete licensure requirements and become effective teachers.
Reports To/Evaluated By: Chief Human Resources Officer
FLSA status: Exempt
Term: 12 months
Qualifications: At least 5 successful years of classroom teaching experience
  • Knowledge of current teaching standards and research-based teaching strategies
  • Previously served as a teaching mentor in a school setting

Essential Duties:
  • Develops, leads and implements the Beginning Teacher Support Plan and obtain Board approval yearly
  • Plans and implements individual, small group and large group professional development for BTs and the Residency Licensed teachers
  • Provides oversight of the Mentor Program and collaborates with lead mentors at each school
  • Coordinates with the Curriculum & Instruction department in regards to BT needs across the district
  • Keeps abreast of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study instructional initiatives as they apply to new teachers
  • Observes Beginning Teachers for the purpose of providing instructional support.
  • Attends required district, regional, and state meetings, including regional BT meetings
  • Provides training in North Carolina Educator Evaluation System
  • Prepares for Title II monitoring visits.
  • Develops and maintains Title II Beginning Teacher, Lateral Entry, and Residency License reports.
  • Create & Maintain Beginning Teacher website.
  • Conducts research and applies best instructional strategies
  • Analyze retention, recruitment, assessment, and survey data.
  • Assists in the planning, development, and coordination of National Board Certification training for career teachers on the district level.
  • Plans, develops, and coordinates new teacher orientation, training in school system policies and procedures for beginning teachers, the beginning teacher support program, and other programs supporting teacher development as assigned.
  • Plans and collaborates with school system principals to provide support for beginning teachers at school sites.
  • Delivers system-wide orientation, training, mentoring, and support programs for beginning teachers and other new employees
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors concerning pertinent aspects of the district and school-level professional development programs, particularly for beginning teachers.
  • Monitors professional development activities for beginning teachers.
  • Monitors the teacher evaluation system for Beginning Teacher Support compliance. Consults and works with principals and supervisors to ensure state and local requirements are met.
  • Verifies and provides information necessary to satisfy local and state reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrates awareness of school/community needs and supports activities to meet those needs.
  • Remains current in state and federal program guidelines, procedures, rules, and laws.
  • Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional activities

Physical and cognitive requirements:
The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to this job classification within Hertford County Schools. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
