Location/Division Specific Information
The Operations Automation Engineer III will play a significant role at Thermo Fisher Scientific Electrical Fault Analysis (EFA) business unit located in Richardson Texas. Our factories produce low-volume, high complexity analytical products for semiconductor designers and manufacturers to use in the creation and improvement of their products and manufacturing processes.

The Operations Automation Engineer III will be part of a team with varied strengths responsible for the successful introduction of new products into the factory and field. Together we will give to the ongoing improvement of products and the processes used for manufacturing and service. This role collaborates closely with New Product Development, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Quality, and Global Technical Support groups to ensure the development of balanced products. Throughout the lifecycle of our products, the Operations Engineering team implements quality, cost, and process improvements to increase customer satisfaction.
What will you do?
- Assist in developing software solutions for factory automation
- Programming .NET based desktop applications in C#, C, and C++
- Develop manufacturing workflows in Final Test using HTML
- Develop software solutions in Thermo Fisher Scientific’s iFast recipe engine for automated processing and metrology
- Define requirements for manufacturability, serviceability and reliability, software, test and diagnostics (TAD) protocols
- Work closely with R&D to drive service and factory requirements in all phases of the Product Management Process (PMP)
- Cultivate positive working relationships with Product Lifecycle Management, Factory Support Engineering, Field Service, GTS, Applications, R&D and Operations personnel
- Applies Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Practical Process Improvement (PPI) tools to lead or facilitate productivity, scrap reduction, process improvement, and cost improvement projects
How will you get here?
- Requires a university degree in Applied Physics, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a combination of technical education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
- 5+ years of proven ability in a high-tech industry environment
- Experience implementing manufacturing automation solutions
- Familiar with C#, C, and C++ programming languages, .NET framework, Git and Visual Studio.
- Experience in bringing technology solutions to improve the quality, efficiency, and cost of manufacturing
- Experience in semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing and/or service
- Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required
- Fluent in English (verbal and in writing)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Visio, etc.) to analyze, organize, and communicate data/information throughout the organization in a clear and concise manner
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of core technologies including vacuum, scanning electron microscopy, motion control, and process automation
- Knowledge of applications in the field of Electrical Failure Analysis (EFA)
