Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder Athletics department encourages applications for an Associate Director of Communications! Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Communications, this position will develop and implement strategies within the Athletic Communications office on behalf of the University of Colorado Boulder Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Working with football as a secondary contact, the Associate Director will also lead with at least one other sport as the primary point of contact. This position will ensure all communication strategies and execution fit within the broader context of the department, University, conference and NCAA goals and compliance requirements. Additionally, this position will promote a positive social media presence through a variety of digital media platforms and assist with social strategy, execution, and content creation on all official platforms, as well as have a role within sport assignments in the area of content planning and execution, media relations, social media, gameday management and archiving while assisting with all 17 intercollegiate sports.
This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department’s Mission Statement, Diversity and Inclusion Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Pac 12 Conference and the NCAA.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Football Communication
  • Assist the Associate AD with certain football related tasks such as, serving as a media contact, writing and editing press releases, conducting press conferences and assisting with media training, media policies, press box management, credentialing and working with various broadcast partners.
  • Assist in the content creation process for social media and written content for official athletic department website and work with video departments, graphic designers, photographers, etc., to provide up-to-date information as needed.
  • Assist in managing the football press box including credentialing and seating charts. Maintain historical archives including documents, statistics, photos and videos. Maintain biographies, rosters, schedules, results and coordinate with necessary conference and national offices to ensure sharing of information. Assist in designing, writing and producing game notes, game day programs, prospectus, record books, flip cards and other publications.
Other Varsity Sport Communication
  • Serve as the primary point of contact acting as the lead media contact, primary digital content manager including writing and social media planning and execution.
  • Work alongside creative content teams in areas of video, photo and graphic design for successful execution of content plan. Serve as gameday event manager in the areas of media relations, maintaining press areas and statistics/results generation. Design, write and supervise the production of various publications including records books, statistics and results, game programs, etc. Maintain biographies, rosters, schedules, statistics and results. Work with the necessary conference and national offices to ensure accurate sharing of information.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operation and in-game posting of digital communications across select social media team accounts as assigned. Create a content calendar that is 365 days for social media content; collaborate with various creative departments (digital content, video departments and creative services) to develop creative and engaging content supporting the sport and strategic plan objectives. Travel as necessary. Serve as lead archivist for the sport and maintain historical archive of documents, statistics, photos and videos.
Other Duties
  • There will be some involvement with any of the other intercollegiate athletic programs and miscellaneous duties, such as assisting in conference and NCAA championship events, or at home events to increase staffing as needed, helping out in the social media arena.
  • This position will take the lead in the archiving process for all sports.

  • The salary range is $58,000 to $65,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Three years of job-related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

What You Will Need

  • Skills in MS Word, Excel, In-Design, Abode Creative Suite, Photoshop and other typical applications.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and tools including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
  • Ability to create and maintain social content calendars and communicate/collaborate with cross functional groups to complete responsibilities.
  • Skills and experience in social media management for a sports organization.
  • Experience building graphics.
  • Dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Strong written and editorial experience including social media, website content and print.
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • An understanding of statistics and rules of various college sports.
  • Ability to use project management software to build content calendars and task management.
  • Ability to multitasking and prioritize assignments.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Five years of professional experience in a college or professional sports environment.
  • Previous experience with oversight and management of personnel.
  • Experience as a primary or secondary contact within college football at the Power 5 level.
  • Experience in athletics photography and editing, video and motion graphics.
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Photoshop, and experience with Lightroom and Premiere.
  • Experience and contacts within the media covering college football for a national publication.
  • Experience with college athletics in general, specifically with football and olympics sports.
