Position Summary

The Development Officer works closely with the VP of Development to identify, cultivate, solicit and close prospective donors for defined major gifts. This role will be responsible for overseeing major and planned gift solicitations, and other fund development initiatives which reflect the most current industry ideas to build new and maintain ongoing donor relationships.

  • Plan and execute a coordinated program to build and maintain donor relationships by planning and executing a major gift strategy, cultivating donor relationships, and assuring robust communication to improve, enhance, and upgrade giving in support of the identified budget requirements.
  • Develop and implement prospect strategy and program, including communication tools.
  • Identify, develop, and cultivate corporate, foundation, community partner, and individual prospects.
  • Evaluate and implement donor acknowledgement initiatives for each type of development initiative. Assure ongoing communication to strengthen donor relationships.
  • Assis VP of Development with the strategy for and creation of written communications that are appropriate to a donors interest.
  • Analyze fundraising efforts on an ongoing basis and adjust strategy to focus resources on the most successful approaches.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Exceptional communication skills including the ability to speak, listen, and write in a clear and concise manner using effective communication tools and techniques.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate a high degree of tact, discretion, professionalism, and customer service.
  • Organizational, time-management, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to command respect while working respectfully with donors, volunteers, staff members, board members, co-workers, and members of the community.
  • Ability to work independently demonstrating self-initiative, good judgment, integrity, and ability to focus on and deliver goals and related tasks including the handling of sensitive situations and confidential matters.
  • Above average skills in use of Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Resource Development software also needed.
  • Passion for the mission of the YWCA required. Ability to lead through a trauma informed lens.
  • Protect the confidentiality of donor records.

Work Environment

The person in this position must be able to sit at a computer for long periods of time in an office setting to create documents, respond to correspondence, and otherwise communicate with co-workers, funders, community partners, et al.

Physical Demands

This role requires the physical mobility to sit and walk for moderate periods of time and requires the ability to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs.

Position Type and Expected Work Hours

The standard hours for this position will be Monday-Friday 8:00 to 5:00 but will also include evenings and weekends. This is a salary exempt position with a typical 40 hour work week that may also include additional hours for events and donor contacts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Desired minimum of 2 years successful track record in non-profit resource development including but not individual and corporate fundraising, limited to special events, direct mail or email campaigns, prospect development, and donor relationship building and growth towards sustainable funding for ongoing operations.
  • Previous experience with capital campaigns appreciated.
  • Previous sales and/or marketing experience helpful.
  • Previous experience managing volunteers and volunteer based initiatives essential.
  • Previous experience with donor relation databases required.
