Qualified candidates must have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, and live in the Capital Region of New York. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have:
- Strong writing and oratory skills are required
- Experience in a legislative, political, or governmental context is preferred
- Willingness to work occasional nights and weekend work required as needed
Duties Description
The New York State Senate Minority Conference is seeking applicants to fill the position of Associate Counsel. The Associate Counsel will work as part of a team on behalf of the Senate Republican Leader, Senators, and relevant central and member staff.

- Providing legal, policy and budget analysis for the Senate Republican Conference
- Tracking committees and legislation active in the state Senate and state Assembly
- Conducting legal and policy-related research
- Preparing materials and briefing Senators and staff on legislation, policy initiatives, and regulatory changes
- Assisting Senators in preparation for public hearings, roundtable discussions, forums and other public meetings and events
- Working with Albany and statewide staff to assist Senators in drafting and analyzing legislation and policy
- Meeting with and building relationships with relevant stakeholders, advocacy, and constituency groups
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
Additional Comments
Salary range is $50,000 to $60,000, commensurate with education and experience.
