Associate Budget Director
Job description
William Paterson University invites application for the full-time position of Associate Budget Director.
Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Budget and Fiscal Planning (AVP), the Associate Budget Director participates in all phases of the development, management and analysis of the University's planning and operational budget. This position will have access to highly confidential information, such as long range financial goals for the University, salary forecasts, programmatic changes, capital budgeting strategies and specific financial analyses of special projects.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develops and implements policies, procedures, practices and systems related to the budgeting process for the University in consort with the AVP and Budget Team
- Performs complex modeling and analysis for programs and projects.
- Manages the development and preparation of the annual budget request to the State.
- Participates in the development and preparation of the annual spending plan including forecasting of salary expenditures.
- Assists with monthly review of budget to actual spend and investigates with units to understand deviations
- Reviews operating, capital, and departmental budgets monitoring spend and encumbrances.
- Serves as back up for salary budgets and position control activities.
- Provides support for grant and capital budgeting processes as needed.
- Participates in training department personnel in financial matters and spreadsheet modeling.
- Prepare financial reports and analysis, including preparing detailed budget summaries monthly to review accounts.
- Prepares and participates in specific financial analyses of special projects.
- Develops sound working relationships with University departments in dealing with budgetary matters.
- Participates on division and university-wide events, committees and task forces as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned that are appropriate for the position.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited University; Masters preferred
- Five (5) year’s work experience working with data analysis, preferably in an institution of higher education.
Competencies/Skills Required:
- Ability to develop and execute projects from conceptualization to presentation of final results and their implications for University policy and effectiveness.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and platform skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access and/or SAS.
- Experience with information data bases, Workday preferred.
