TITLE:
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Accountability (July 1, 2023 start date)

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To assume responsibility for curriculum development, instructional supervision, and assessment for the school division

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Hold a Postgraduate Professional Certificate with endorsements in school administration and shall have completed those courses at the graduate level that are pertinent to the assignment
Have at least five years experience in administrative and/or supervisory positions with at least two years in a principalship
Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community

REPORTS TO:
Superintendent

SUPERVISES:
Director of Elementary Education, Director of Secondary Education, Associate Director of School Administration, Coordinator of Gifted Education, and Coordinator of Federal Grants, Coordinator of Assessment and Accountability, Coordinator of Educational Technology and Innovation, and other appropriate staff

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Keep abreast of educational development and provide leadership in bringing pertinent, innovative programs into the schools
Direct the selection of textbooks and instructional materials
Keep the school superintendent informed of the effectiveness and needs of the division’s instructional program
Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the work of the directors of elementary education, secondary education, and special education as well as the coordinators of gifted education, federal grants, assessment and accountability, and educational technology and innovation in organizing and administering instructional programs within their respective areas of concern
Coordinate and guide long and short-term instructional planning for the school division
Assist in interpreting the division’s instructional programs to the community, news media, and other interested parties
Oversee the coordination and supervision of the overall administration of the division’s assessment program and interpretation of the performance and assessment results
Direct the planning and administration of summer school programs
Organize and administer a division-wide program of instructional supervision
Accept responsibility for the preparation and expenditures of that part of the budget related to instruction
Evaluate staffing needs and make recommendations to the superintendent
Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent

REQUIREMENTS:
Involves frequent traveling to and from schools

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
12-month contract; Grade 25
