Assessment Officer, Center for Alternative Studies and Educational Testing (CAS)
MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 4
37.5 hours per week
- Lynn Campus: Mon 9am-5pm, Tues 11am-7pm ;
- Danvers Campus : Wed 9am-5pm, Thurs 9am-5pm, Fri 9am-5pm
Position requires ability to work one Saturday per month, 9am-1pm, as part of the regular work schedule
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Center for Alternative Studies and Educational Testing (CAS) strives to provide exemplary service to students who seek testing opportunities and alternative options for credit award. The Assessment Officer team assists in coordinating the provision of student testing services for assessment of academic support skills. Team members are responsible for administering college placement examinations and other testing options, interpreting test scores, assessing needs of individual students through test results and other documents, advising students and providing a liaison between students and other academic departments and college offices as needed. The Assessment Officer supports all CAS programs, performs administrative tasks associated with department activities, and maintains the standards and procedures of testing agencies, the department and the college.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Shared responsibility for computerized placement testing (CPT's).
- Assists in the coordination of ESL and non-ESL student testing services for assessment of academic skills, including pre- and post-test advising regarding test readiness, placement results, and recommendations.
- Records and reports
- Primary responsibility for HSE (HiSET and GED) assessments.
- Oversees all aspects of daily HSE testing activities. Administers HSE testing.
- Researches and develops HSE testing strategies and policies that improve student options and are responsive to student need.
- Advises students prior to and following testing.
- Primary responsibility for Challenge Exams.
- Promotes alternative option to help students graduate earlier.
- Administers Challenge Exams. Oversees all aspects of Challenge Exam assessments, including pre- and post-test advising regarding test readiness, results, and recommendations.
- Shared responsibility for ATI Testing (e.g.TEAS, PN Predictor), PLA examinations (e.g. CLEP and DSST), and industry recognized credential assessments.
- Collaborates with other CAS staff to plan and administer testing sessions.
- Advises students pre- and post-testing about test preparation, results and options.
- Advisement to students in relation to CAS services.
- Explores student career, academic and personal goals, and counsels students regarding academic program requirements, admissions standards and course pre-requisites.
- Assistance with all aspects of overall departmental operations.
- Supports administration of all standardized and institution-specific testing.
- Supports Alternative Studies/independent learning, credit for prior learning programs/options, and study abroad.
- Maintains professional knowledge.
- Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Executive Director of the Center for Alternative Studies and Educational Testing
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Education, Counseling or closely related field required.
- One year of experience and/or training in computerized test administration, academic assessment/placement, academic advisement/counseling, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Background in testing and alternative credentialing preferred.
- Computer program manipulation or computer operations in an academic environment.
- Counseling experience and strong interpersonal skills.
- Communication skills that demonstrate sensitivity to non-traditional / adult learners and diversely prepared students.
- Sophisticated understanding of academia, preferably in a community college setting.
- Experience with post-secondary learning programs.
- Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations
- Ability to work on alternate campus where needed.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative.
- Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.

Additional Information:
SALARY RANGE: Anticipated starting salary range $53,590.00-$57,992.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement.
