Description of Work Unit
The Career Center is part of the Division of Student Affairs with strong and broad-reaching relationships and responsibilities throughout campus, including the academic colleges. Divided into three units (Career Education; Employer Connections; and Operations), the Career Center not only provides career-related-advising and -services to students, it fills many additional functions critical to the success of the university and students, including, but not limited to, campus-wide career fair coordination and job/internship postings, employer relations, institutional career outcome reporting, and student employment leadership. The Career Center is responsible to a variety of internal and external stakeholders and leverages those relationships to help students investigate the many available professional opportunities with special consideration for finding paths that meet their skills, goals, values, and unique identities. Position Summary
The Assessment Coordinator will hold responsibility for the development, implementation, management, and coordination of assessment efforts throughout areas within the Career Center and beyond. The position will collaborate extensively with both internal and external units to operationalize the Career Center’s vision and mission and maximize the effectiveness of the Center’s work through data-informed decision-making. The position’s work will involve establishing collection methods of quantitative and qualitative data, analyzing and visualizing trends and patterns, producing high-impact reports, and creatively disseminating information. This work will be accomplished through a lens of equity and inclusion, including transparently disaggregating data to ensure that it reflects all students’ experiences with the career journey, especially those students who have been historically marginalized. The incoming candidate will exercise discretion, analytical judgement, and personal accountability. The Assessment Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Operations and Assessment in the Career Center.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution plus two years of experience in conducting research, gathering and interpreting data, and creating meaningful narratives based on quantitative and qualitative data or Master’s degree in social sciences, education, research, or related field.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Develop and manage assessment strategy and processes to guide and support the Career Center’s strategic plan and continuous improvement efforts including managing projects (i.e., develop assessment project scopes and timelines, summarize progress for stakeholders, ensure project milestones are met, assess project outcomes, and make strategic recommendations for continued operational success).
  • Manage assessment in an equitable manner, recognizing differences in data related to social identity, cultural bias, and negative historical impact of research.
  • Establish internal processes for data collection and assessment (e.g, participation tracking, student learning outcome tracking, career educator feedback, resource effectiveness, etc.)
  • Design and manage processes to collect data about career education, student employee development, recruitment, and students and employer satisfaction with Career Center events, programs, and workshops, with particular attention to institutionally underserved populations.
  • Lead staff in developing and assessing equitable learning outcomes for students, supporting persistence, graduation, and career outcome.
  • Identify and contribute research data to influence employer and alumni engagement strategy.
  • Effectively demonstrate the value of career work and highlight success of CSU students by collecting and providing qualitative data to Career Center marketing team, academic colleges, and other campus partners.
  • Provide strategic recommendations regarding Career Center services and programs based upon appropriate engagement statistics from university career management systems to improve impact and ensure equitable usage of services for institutionally underserved populations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Career Center unit directors and associate directors for the purpose of determining assessment needs; Consult with unit Directors and individual staff members to establish effective data collection processes and procedures relevant to specific their areas as well as direct informed policy and program change.
  • Serve as chair or co-chair of program review team, fully evaluating the Career Center’s efforts approximately every five years.
  • Conduct a variety of benchmarking projects regarding outcomes and offerings with peer institutions.
  • Identify and implement improvement plans in relation to data processes and recommend ways to strengthen the quality of data.

Campus-Wide Initiative Coordination and Communication

Duty/Responsibility
  • Coordinate data collection, cleaning, analysis, and reporting for the campus-wide career outcome and satisfaction report in consultation with Institutional Research, all academic colleges, and the Graduate School on behalf of the President’s Office, the Division of Student Affairs Leadership Team, and the Career Center; ensure data is current, reliable, and available upon request from university administration and/or other institutional units.
  • Communicate career outcomes to the campus community, including each academic college, working in partnership with the career education managers. Create specialized reports regarding career outcomes. Determine best data presentation based on audience and utilize a variety of formats (e.g., report, infographic, interactive internet-based tool, etc.)
  • Liaise with multiple campus offices including admissions, alumni affairs, advancement, corporate relations, and others, to provide and promote career-related data.
  • Create and conduct assessment data analysis presentations, as requested, by Division of Student Affairs leadership, academic Colleges, and campus constituents.
  • Lead staff and campus partners as university career management system administrator for students and alumni, including training Career Center staff and campus partners on processes and protocols related to data collection and reporting.
