SHELTER ATTENDANT JOB DESCRIPTION

The position of shelter attendant consists of the following duties and requires the following skills and abilities:

Cleaning of shelter, dog and cat kennels requires bending, stooping, use of a hose, scrubbing, and chemical cleaning solutions, as well as interaction with animals.

Assessing the physical and mental well being of dogs and cats in the shelter through observation and understanding of signs of stress and/or illness.

Feeding animals on a scheduled basis. Requires meal prep, feeding and interaction with animals.

Administering vaccines, oral and topical medications to shelter animals in accordance with shelter procedures. Requires ability to prepare and give injections while controlling the animal. Attendant will also be asked to assist our vet and vet tech with spay/neuter surgeries and public vaccine clinics.

Prior shelter experience is greatly preferred. You must be comfortable working with cats AND dogs.

Receive animal remains for cremation processing. Requires lifting and moving of heavy animals from vehicles to place in cold storage (must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted). Dealing with emotional people in an understanding and sympathetic manner.

Interacting with volunteers serving in various functions at the shelter. Assuring volunteer compliance with shelter policies and procedures.

Interacting with the public in the viewing, screening and adoption process of animals at the shelter, as well as check in and check out for public spay/neuter and vaccine appointments. Answering telephone calls and making phone calls to the public.

Using computer software to record all activities involving shelter animals in accordance with procedures.

Handling cash, checks and credit card purchases; completing payment receipts and cash drawer reconciliation in accordance with shelter procedures.

Completing administrative reports and processing dog license applications and reminder forms.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
