The district currently educates more than 12,800 students at 18 campuses: nine elementary, three intermediates, three middle schools, one high school, and two alternative campuses. Grade levels are divided into elementary, serving students in Pre-K through four; intermediate, serving grades five and six; middle school for students in grades seven and eight; and high school for students in ninth through twelfth grades. Duncanville ISD is located in the southwest region of Dallas County along Interstate 20 and Highway 67. The district is one of the largest employers in the area, employing approximately 1600, including almost 800 classroom teachers. Primary Purpose: Assist campuses in meeting the physical and instructional needs of students receiving Tier 2 & 3 behavior intervention. Assist in the implementation of behavior intervention plans including teaching social skills, self regulation and anger management. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of the certified teacher.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
● Associate’s degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
● Valid Texas educational aide certificate
● Must obtain and maintain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
● Ability to work with children who exhibit challenging behaviors
● Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
● Ability to communicate effectively
● Knowledge of general office equipment
● Knowledge of restorative practices
Experience: Experience working with children in an educational setting
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
● Help maintain an orderly classroom environment
● Help teacher keep behavioral records and prepare requiredreports Student Management
● Help manage the behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations where the use of restraint may be required.
● Assist classoom teacher with the implementation of classroom management strategies.
● Recognize differences in each student’s special communicative, and emotional needs and adapt methods and interaction accordingly.
● Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom
● Keep the classroom teacher, Restorative Practices Specialist and Director of Student Management & Restorative Practices informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
Other:
● Maintain confidentiality.
● Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students
Posture: Frequentstanding; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking and reaching
Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
