The California National Primate Research Center, CNPRC at UC Davis, is an Organized Research Unit that conducts interdisciplinary research programs on significant human health problems where non-human primates are the animal of choice. In addition to its major efforts in the area of research, the CNPRC is also committed to both UC Davis and NIH missions of teaching and service.

Job Summary

Under limited supervision, independently perform the full range of research program management responsibilities for the Regenerative Medicine, Stem Cell, and Translational Science Programs including the Translational Human Stem Cell Shared Research Facility, Multimodal Imaging Core, and Training Programs. Apply programmatic management that include financial monitoring of accounts; outreach and communications efforts; HR support to program managers; grant and contracts (post award management that includes financial/budget planning, forecasting, and analyses); and the coordination and progress monitoring of multiple projects, training programs, outreach events, collaborative opportunities, and training sessions. In partnership with the PI, the program’s scientific collaborators and research team, perform short and long-term strategic planning to accomplish program goals and objectives with limited guidance, and provide oversight and direction on a daily basis. Plan, organize and manage outreach program activities (includes direct marketing efforts) to recruit trainees, to programmatic projects and annual scientific meetings, and academic professional training sessions. Plan, coordinate, and seek sponsors and other external project stakeholders. Prepare reports, presentations, technical, and financial reports. Oversee expenditures, project/program budgets, and provide oversight for equipment purchases, maintenance and service contracts, and self-sustainability of services and recharge rates. Develop effective web presence and communications strategies in support of program goals and objectives and integrating with other campus and national activities. Provide guidance and support to students/fellows with drafts of abstracts and manuscripts for presentation at national meetings and for publication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Professional experience in administrative operations and programmatic management that includes managing, planning, financial oversight, and administering the day-to-day operations of several mid-sized and complex research programs with primary responsibility for all administrative and programmatic activities.
  • Experience with university-based research concepts, principles, and conduct of research that includes thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices that include the preparation of budgets, contributing to scientific writing, scientific reports, manuscripts, and publications.
  • Applied experience in HR concepts such as recruitment and hiring, payroll, general employee relations with basic knowledge and experience in the principles and practices of human resources management.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and ability to work with Principal Investigators to establish program agendas, and formulate project goals, objectives, and assessment of program effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated administrative skills, knowledge, and applied knowledge of federal budgeting processes, financial reporting requirements and policies regarding the use of federal funds and accounting procedures with diverse fund restrictions and fund accounting including university requirements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) to use word processing, desktop publishing software, and web content management systems used to create scientific content and communications for print and websites.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Experience on program design for research-based outreach, which includes the ability to assess program’s effectiveness, and recommends changes to program’s content, policies, and procedures accordingly.
  • Experience identifying and using the most effective communication approaches and media, particularly to communicate difficult issues, technical concepts, and politically sensitive information.
  • Experience in analyzing complex information or problems to provide a sound basis for establishing priorities, selecting courses of action for pursuit or recommendations to others, and to resolve conflicts.
  • Experience with developing organizational structures, delegating, and developing administrative policies and procedures and implementation.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Demonstrated skills and ability to work closely with the PI and all laboratory and administrative personnel on a daily basis regarding all aspects of the position assuring appropriate level of transparency, effective communications, reporting on the status of projects, events, publications, and training grants are consistent with program/project timetables.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in coordination with PI/Program Director in managing the day-to-day needs of the programs and projects assigned to enable the PI to accomplish research, teaching, and training goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to address sensitive issues and demonstrate effective interpersonal communications associated with translational research specifically using nonhuman primates and human stem cells.
