Job description
The Human Services Department is seeking an Accountant III to join the Management Services Division. The Human Services Department provides a comprehensive array of services to help people achieve their highest level of self-sufficiency. Services and programs reach a diverse population of Phoenix residents from preschool children participating in Head Start programs to older adults attending senior center activities. The Management Services Division (MSD) coordinates information technology, budget, accounting, contracts administration, planning and research, payroll, and other supportive services for the department.
The Human Services Department Accountant III is responsible for development, research, monitoring, and analysis of Operating and/or Grant budgets.
Areas of responsibility include:
- Providing accounting and budgetary support for the Business and Workforce Division and the Workforce Opportunity Innovation Grant.
- Evaluating general fund departmental expenditure estimates and making necessary adjustments.
- Completing external financial reports or billings.
- Performing a comprehensive analysis of special projects and preparing reports.
- Responding to requests for information from auditors for assigned programs.
- Participating in discussions and negotiations with external funding agencies.
SALARY
$58,032.00 - $88,379.20 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $88,379.20 depending upon qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Four years of progressively responsible experience as a professional accountant;
- Including some experience training and supervising paraprofessional and professional accounting personnel.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or public administration or a related field.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Undergraduate degree with a major/emphasis in accounting, finance or economics is preferred.
- Experience communicating with middle management staff, executives, committees, or boards, and working in a team environment.
- Experience with SAP or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
- Experience working with grants including compliance with regulations and eligible use of funding.
- Experience in governmental budgetary and finance activities.
- Experience working with state/federal grant-funded programs.
- Supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in Excel.
