Reports To: Assistant Finance Director Pay Grade – 110 – Wage: $48,443 - $79,934 DOQ

Position Type: Full-Time Hours: 40 hrs/week

Job Summary:
This position performs moderately complex accounting work according to generally accepted accounting principles. An employee in this job classification reconciles various general ledger accounts with a primary emphasis on the cash/bank reconciliation. Work includes researching and collecting data, preparing clear and concise financial reports, and monitoring expenditures and revenues as assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Assistant Finance Director.

Job Description:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reconciles cash receipts, disbursements and other applications on a daily and monthly basis and post adjusting entries appropriately.
  • Maintains general and subsidiary revenue and expenditure reports, sorts, proofs and post entries from supporting records, making adjusting entries, balancing against other records and preparing reports for such records.
  • Reconciles various general ledgers as required for audit.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries necessary to record financial transactions.
  • Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing financial data and trends.
  • Meet financial reporting deadlines as assigned.
  • Provides backup support to other positions in Finance when needed.
  • Assists with FEMA reporting as needed.
  • Assists in formulating and recommending accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Maintain Excel spreadsheets for balancing various accounts.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher with major course work in accounting, finance or related field is required.
  • Any combination of education, experience and training may be substituted for some requirements.
PREFERRED SKILLS

  • CPA or CGFO preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to deal with the general public in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good personal relationship with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
  • The applicant must demonstrate ability to work independently.
  • The applicant must demonstrate ability to plan and organize.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of the methods used in keeping governmental fiscal accounts and records.
  • Ability to perform complex, detailed work involving written and numeric data and to make calculations rapidly and accurately.
  • Good knowledge of modern governmental accounting practices.
  • Ability to prepare fiscal reports.
  • Requires strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage workloads and multiple priorities with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ADA: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long of periods of time performing repetitive functions. The employee must be able to access file cabinets for filling and retrieve data. The employee must have the ability to sit at a desk and view a screen for extended periods of time.
