IN – INTERPRETER, SIGN LANGUAGE

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of an Interpreter training Program.
  • Missouri Certification and licensure.
  • Expressed knowledge of the Ethical Rules of Conduct as set forth by the Missouri Commission for the Deaf.
  • Educational interpreting experience would be helpful.
  • Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

REPORTS TO: Coordinator – Related Services; Building Administrator; Executive Director – Pupil Services

JOB GOAL: To provide interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.   • Provides interpreter services for deaf/hard of hearing students in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, special education classrooms, regular education classrooms, vocational programs, or other special activities such as extracurricular activities and non-academic situations.
  • Consults with classroom teachers on a regular basis and educates staff members regarding the role and responsibilities of the interpreter in the educational setting.
  • Assists all staff in monitoring the effectiveness of hearing aids and other instruments intended to improve the students’ ability to receive auditory input.
  • Participate in team meetings regarding educational programming for students.
  • Utilizes instructional plans, strategies, methods, materials and techniques that meet the individual educational needs of students with hearing impairments.
  • Serves as a liaison to promote good public relations between the deaf/hard of hearing students, hearing peers, staff and faculty members.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is consistent with typical office/school environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board Of Education. Benefits according to Board policies.
