Baxter & Woodman, Inc. is seeking Engineer Technician for our Chicago, Crystal Lake, Naperville, or Mokena, IL offices. We are seeking an Engineer Technician with 10+ years of experience in construction inspection and/or public works inspection. You will need to be available “on- call” in a seasonal capacity to assist our clients in a variety of (infrastructure and/or transportation) projects and assignments located in our service regions. These are temporary assignments that will be 12-52 weeks in duration with variable schedules and/or hours and located at one of our construction or project sites.

POSITION DUTIES:

• Conduct on-site observation of work, repairs, and test as needed.
• Monitors progress schedule and shop drawing log.
• General civil engineering and municipal client service.
• Effective communication, both oral and written, with residents, businesses, and public agency representative.
• Resolve construction conflicts and prepare cost-effective solutions.
• Review pay requests and verify work completed.
• Endeavor to provide protection for owner against defects and deficiencies in the work.
• Serve as liaison with contractor, working principally through contractor’s superintendent.
• Maintain job site records of Daily Reports, job meeting minutes, approved shop drawing submittals, and pay requests.
• Maintain records of time, equipment, and material needs for any changes in the work that may result in a change order. Review and request adjustments of compensation and/or contract time.
• Observing, measuring and documenting construction activities.
• Maintaining a daily log of construction activities.
• Preparing payment estimates.
• Addressing resident complaints and concerns.
• Coordinating with the contractor and other duties as needed or assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
• 10 + years experience in construction inspection and/or public works inspection.
• Ability to travel throughout Chicago area (own transportation).
• Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
