Position Description

ERT is seeking a motivated individual to provide baseline deployment and test engineering duties for NOAA’s GOES-R ground system operations and maintenance team. The incumbent will support baseline deployment and testing, systems performance monitoring, feedback to engineering teams, support to issue review/root cause analysis, and other activities. Major responsibilities include:

• Support maintenance and update activities of the GOES-R Ground System Data Operations commercial of the shelf (COTS) and custom software
• Install builds and patches, ensure integration, and test deliveries from both the factory team and the product readiness for operations team
• Install and integrate of factory-delivered builds and patches on GOES-R ground systems
• Provide feedback to factory teams on success and failure of deployment builds and patches
• Work with the sustainment team to develop and execute enterprise-wide and system-specific release verification test (RVT) tests.
• Work with GOES-R engineering teams to develop and execute data operations exercises

Required Skills
4+ years of experience leading to:

• Knowledge of satellite ground systems architecture engineering
• Skill in systems baseline deployment and test processes, systems integration techniques, root cause analysis, reporting systems anomalies
• Expert knowledge required in Red Hat 6, 7 systems administration and virtualization, LDAP/Microsoft Active Directory, Domain Name Service (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Red Hat Satellite Server, Apache Directory Studio, Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).
• Expert knowledge in Oracle and MySQL
• Experience with LDAP Data Interchange Format (LDIF), simple network management protocol (SNMP), IBM and Dell blade server systems, IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS) cluster, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV), CAN support, DDN Storage.
• Understanding of network troubleshooting including Cisco distribution switches, Juniper networking.
• Software skills in Python, bash, selinux, regex, git, etc.
• Experience in using configuration management systems including IBM ClearCase/ClearQuest, Jira in an environmental satellite ground systems support environment

Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access the applicable government facility/systems.

Education
Bachelor of Science or equivalent; experience may substitute for college degree

Location
Work is to be completed on-site at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, MD. Position may be eligible for flexible work arrangement.
